HFT Week 2 Kick Off

Had a great workout this morning.  Got there circa 7 AM- couldn’t believe how empty it was.  Hope it is as empty tonight.  Brought my gym clothes to the office so I can change before I leave and stop off on my way home.

My weighted dips did not improve at all.  Part of me is like “I should get a weight belt,” but I’ve been doing pull-ups and dips with dumbells between my feat for years and never had a problem adding weight.  So I don’t think that is it.  My weighted pull ups went up though.  My deadlift, I could have gone heavier on, but it was a good weight none the less.

At the end of Week 1 I am beginning to see results in my upper body and mid section.  I am eating at a caloric deficit to lose weight while following this program.  Building muscle is not my goal at the moment.  I have the rest of the winter and spring for that.

I found the dip belt to have been an inexpensive positive addition. Less focus on holding a DB and more on the form of the exercise.

With a weight belt, you might be able to add less weight. Instead of jumping from 5 – 10 pounds because of the dumbbell selection, you could jump 2.5 (gyms usually have those) or even less if you invested in a couple 1 pound weights. I plan on investing in 1 pound weights shortly cause I’m doing SS. Improving with smaller weight is always better than stalling with heavier weight – Mark Rippetoe (not verbatim!)

That’s a good point. Truth be told, if I’m stalled one week on a 5 pound increment, it usually corrects itself by the next workout. If it doesn’t, then I’ll have to make a change.

Have you thought about investing in a weight vest. I use a 50lb vest that adjusts in 2.5lb increments. Very versatile.
